The DMC-FZ30's LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens features 14 elements in 8 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens which helps to suppress the color bleeding that often occurs in telephoto shots, plus a 12x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 35 to 420mm). This combines with the large, 1/1.8" diagonal 8-megapixel CCD to give you enormous expressive power. The new Extended Optical Zoom, which minimizes the image degradation that normally occurs with digital zooming, gives you up to 19.1x power in 3-megapixel photos, and up to 15x power in 5-megapixel photos. Plus, the 12x optical zoom can be used together with the 4x digital zoom1 to produce a maximum of 48x zooming power.

The FZ7 features a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens with a remarkable 12x optical zoom, equivalent to a 35 to 430mm lens on a 35mm film camera. A film camera with an optical zoom this powerful would be so big and heavy, you couldn't handle it with one hand. The FZ7, on the other hand, is small, lightweight and easy to handle. It also has Panasonic's Extended Optical Zoom. While causing minimal deterioration by using the center part of the high-resolution CCD, this function magnifies the image to give you total zoom power of 17.5x1. - roughly equivalent to a huge 1680mm lens on a 35mm camera.

2.5" Diagonal LCD and High-Resolution EVF
The FZ7 features a large, 2.5" diagonal LCD and the Power LCD function. Simply touch the Power LCD button and the display becomes about 40% brighter for easier viewing on sunny days. The FZ7 also has the world's first2 developed High-Angle LCD feature, which makes it easier to check the LCD when you're holding the camera high to shoot over a crowd. The large LCD lets you check the focus, frame the shot, and use functions like 25-thumbnail display and Calendar View in comfort, with no eye strain. Also, we aligned the electronic viewfinder and LCD along the same line of sight to minimize differences in the images you see when framing shots.

The joystick on the back of the camera gives you quick, easy and accurate manual focusing. You can also use the Manual Focus Assist function, which helps you set a perfect focus by magnifying the center of the LCD image and displaying a bar graph of the focal distance and depth of field.

The DMC-LC1 may look, act and feel like a 35mm camera, but it is most definitely digital. Most film-based cameras allow you to manually adjust certain features. That's why we added manual functionality to the focus and exposure settings on the DMC-LC1. Simply flick the Focus button on the side of the lens to MF (Manual Focus) and you're ready to go. If you need to check the focus, our Manual Focus Assist function enlarges the center part of the image in the viewfinder or LCD monitor by 3x for easy viewing. The Manual Exposure Mode allows you to select the aperture and shutter speed of your choice. You can even see how much your setting differs from the setting the camera considers optimal with the Manual Exposure Assist function.

With the LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON1 lens on the DMC-LC1, you can capture subjects in crisp, clear detail while giving shadows and highlights smooth, rich gradation. Featuring 13 lenses in 10 groups, the DMC-LC1's 3.2x optical zoom lens system renders sharp images from edge to edge with high contrast and rich colors. It also offers a focal distance equivalent to a 28mm to 90mm lens on a 35mm camera and boasts a wide-open aperture value of F2.0 at the wide setting and F2.4 at the telephoto setting. High-Speed, High-Quality Image Processing
In some digital cameras, the LSI (which acts as the camera's brain), generates a luminance signal from only the green component of the incoming light. The Venus EngineTM LSI in the DMC-LC1 generates the signal from the red and blue components as well as the green. This rich information in the luminance signal helps to boost the diagonal resolution, resulting in outstanding images.
